Professor Rotella from Boston College had a great visit with us yesterday. He made some suggestions on preparing for college English (become proficient with the 5 paragraph essay as college writing builds upon it, have a “game” attitude towards reading longer works and books with older language/different literary form, look for ways to make things interesting), reasons to major/minor in English (if it interests you, also- processing, analyzing and presenting on large blocks of information are skills in demand and transferable), among other topics.
Students asked thoughtful questions on how to protect journalistic integrity (careful use of sources, good judgement on when to run and not run a story) and biggest academic regret (not speaking in class until he was a professor), among others.
Special thanks to all who supported this visit!

Best,
Dave
